A n g i o p l a s t y P r o c e d u r e s Coronary angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure with the aim of widening the lumen of a blocked blood vessel. Commonly this needs to be done after a more severe development of atherosclerosis. For this procedure a balloon catheter is inserted into the vessel and by inflating the balloon the vessel is widened allowing blood to flow more freely again. This procedure can also be carried out in other important blood vessels such as the carotid or renal arteries. These procedures are considered standard in Germany.
