P a c e M a k e r s A pacemaker is usually implanted if the heart beats too slowly or irregularly. It is a miniature electrical catheter attached to a very small battery and aggregate. The catheter is placed and anchored in a certain location within the heart and the aggregate is usually implanted close to the clavicle bone under the skin. The procedure is a minimally invasive procedure and can be carried out under local anesthetic with mild sedation. This is considered a standard procedure and is carried out even in smaller hospitals without a cardio-vascular or cardiology department.
